“Fixed-fee” – it’s been a buzz word in the legal industry for some time, but what does it really mean? What are the benefits of offering fixed-fee legal services and what does it mean in practical terms for the legal industry?

Clarissa Rayward is known as ‘The Happy Family Lawyer’ as she specialises in helping couples stay out of Court and encouraging them to work together to reach a resolution to their relationship breakdown. A practising family lawyer, she is the Director of the Brisbane Family Law Centre, a multidisciplinary practice where lawyers work alongside counsellors and financial planners to ensure that clients receive the holistic support they need. For the past 3 years Clarissa has been running a purely fixed priced practice and regularly coaches other lawyers wanting to ‘dump the billable hour’. She is also the author of 2 books, host of the popular legal Podcast ‘Happy Lawyer Happy Life’ and creator of ‘The Club’ an online membership for entrepreneurial lawyers looking for ways to better run their practices while maintaining happiness in their lives in and outside of law. Rachel is an employment lawyer with a background in commercial law, employment law and human resources roles. She worked in the human resources team at Abigroup Contractors (now Lend Lease) which then led her to work in private practice in boutique law firms.
